ECP committee probes former Pindi commissioner's allegations

Starts recording statements of DROs, ROs in Rawalpindi division
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The special committee set up by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to probe allegations levelled by former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha regarding rigging in polls has started work.
Sources said the committee had written a letter to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to provide a copy of the transcript of Chattha's press conference.
The committee has started recording statements of district returning officers (DROs) of the Rawalpindi division. In this connection, the district returning officer of Murree on Monday recorded his statement.
Earlier on Sunday, the TORs were finalised for the special committee of the ECP to start its work.
Sources added that statements of 13 returning officers for National Assembly constituencies (ROs) of Rawalpindi division were being recorded.
On Tuesday, the committee will record statements of returning officers of the 26 provincial constituencies falling in Rawalpindi division.
On Feb 17, Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Chattha, addressing a press conference, had said elections were rigged in his division. He accepted responsibility and resigned from his post.
He claimed that he failed to perform his duty honestly as the results of 13 National Assembly constituencies were manipulated. The winning candidates were shown losers, he said.
As the allegations surfaced, the ECP formed a committee to probe the charges.
